Fallen PSD, gendarmerie personnel laid to rest

AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) and the Gendarmerie Department on Monday announced the names of those killed in the line of duty in the terror attack that targeted the southern governorate of Karak on Sunday.
The Gendarmerie Department’s personnel who died during the attack are Lt. Col. Saed Maaytah, Corp. Mohammad Banawi and Corp. Shafi Shurufat, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The PSD identified its fallen personnel as Warrant Officer Yazan Saanoun, Warrant Officer Suhaib Sawaeer, Sgt. Alaa Nuaimi and Officer Hakem Harassees.
The PSD also expressed its condolences over the loss of life of citizens Ibrahim Bashabsheh and Dia Shamaileh as well as Canadian national Linda Vatcher.
The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army expressed its condolences for the families of the fallen security personnel who were killed on duty, as well as the innocent citizens and the Canadian national.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Jordanians and Karak residents participated in the funeral of Banawi, who was laid to rest at the cemetery of his hometown of Azizieh.
Maaytah was also laid to rest in Karak’s Adar neighbourhood, in a funeral attended by HRH Prince Rashid, Minister of State Fawaz Irsheidat, on behalf of Prime Minister Hani Mulki, and several ministers, senators and MPs, as well as senior military and civil officials.
Bashabsheh and Shamaileh were laid to rest in Karak on Monday, with the participation of several officials and citizens.
Shurufat was laid to rest in his hometown of Saadah in the northeastern Mafraq Governorate, with the participation of hundreds of Jordanians.
Following the military funeral of Saanoun in Tafileh’s Bseira town, his father Hani expressed his pride in what his son did in defence of the country.
In Amman’s Naour District residents took part in Sawaeer’s military funeral, which was attended by PSD Assistant Director for Criminal Security Brig. Gen. Mohammad Kharabsheh on behalf of PSD Director Maj. Gen. Atef Saudi, Petra reported.
Irbid’s Jamha town is preparing to host the funeral of Nuaimi on Tuesday noon.
Musa Nuaimi, the father, said that although his son tends to do office work, he decided to take part in the operation with his fellow personnel against the terrorists.
Harassees was laid to rest in Theeban cemetery on Monday.
Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Minister of Education Mohammad Thneibat and Minister of Municipal Affairs Walid Masri participated in the funerals.
Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh visited families of the personnel killed in the line of duty in Karak and said that citizens’ cooperation with security agencies contributed to concluding the operation and eliminating the terrorists.
Karak Governor Hijazi Assaf said the city now is safe and secure, and the situation is back to normal, with all public departments working as usual, according to Petra.
Four terrorists were killed in the security operation after they stormed the southern city of Karak and fired at security and civilians before heading to Karak Castle.
