AMMAN — Experts on Tuesday emphasised the need to increase measures related to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in social protection and various services, calling for activating the laws and legislation pertaining to them.

The remarks came during a session organised by the Phenix Centre for Economic and Informatics Studies, under the theme "social protection for persons with disability", as part of the social protection project in the MENA region after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a statement.

President of the I am a Human Society for Rights of People with Disabilities Asia Yaghi said that during the 2014-2019 period, a total of 489 workers with disabilities were registered, while amid the pandemic in 2020 it reached 116, and in September of 2021 was only 124, noting that people with disabilities are employed in small temporary projects for no more than three months.

The main challenges facing people with disabilities include the lack of a database including their names and demands, as well as failure to seriously implement the Law on the Rights of People with Disabilities and access the National Aid Fund assistance.
