Exhibition showcases projects of Young Innovators Lab participants

AMMAN — Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation’s (AHSF) Knowledge Path library, organised an exhibition showcasing the scientific projects of Young Innovators Lab programme participants.

In its fifth edition, the programme, which was live-streamed on AHSF Facebook page, chose 48 innovators from Amman and Zarqa, out of 427 students from both municipalities who applied for participation in a test measuring critical thinking skills, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times on Sunday.

The participants were supervised by 12 university students from various scientific disciplines in Jordan, with the aim to enhance their critical reflection and encourage creative thinking, the statement added, noting that “most projects that were developed with the aim of finding effective solutions to address the pandemic.”

The foundation launched the Young Innovators Lab programme in 2015, in cooperation with Al Muntada Young Scientists Club, a non-profit organisation, to promote critical thinking and innovation, according to the AHSF website.

The programme also aims to develop the skills of children and adolescents, aged between 10 and 13 years, in order to stimulate their critical and analytical thinking, through conducting experiments and scientific projects during specialised workshops, according to the website.

During the event, AHSF’s CEO Valentina Kassisieh said that “this edition is different from the previous ones, whereas the pandemic has changed many of our habits, behaviours and even our priorities,” pointing out to the importance of providing an enabling scientific environment for children, in order for them to develop, get creative and solve problems.

The Young Innovators Lab provides a scientific and practical space, gearing towards developing critical thinking and logical analysis among children, through training and providing them with the necessary knowledge and required tools, according to the AHSF statement.

Since the programmer’s launch, 191 innovators and over 75 supervisors from Amman, Karak, Irbid, Balqa and Zarqa have benefited from it, according to the statement.
