EU election observers present final report on parliamentary polls

AMMAN — Independent Election Commission (IEC) President Khaled Kalaldeh on Sunday received the EU Election Observation Mission’s final report, which included outcomes and recommendations to improve the electoral process in the future, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During a meeting with the mission’s chief observer and European Parliament member Jo Leinen, Kalaldeh commended the EU’s efforts in monitoring the elections, stressing that the IEC’s keenness to ensure the presence of monitoring delegations as a means to ensure integrity. He added that the commission will study the report and the notes.
Kalaldeh said the IEC has finished preparations for the governorate council and municipal elections but is awaiting the setting of a date for the polls. Also on Sunday, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh received Leinen and discussed with him several issues of mutual interest and the refugee crisis.
