Erdogan, Razzaz discuss bilateral relations, regional developments

AMMAN — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday received Prime Minister Omar Razzaz over bilateral ties and regional developments.

During a meeting in Ankara, Razzaz and Erdogan voiced keenness on bolstering Jordanian-Turkish relations all fields, especially trade exchange and economic cooperation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Razzaz briefed Erdogan and senior Turkish officials present at the meeting about the challenges facing Jordan and the government’s endeavour to alleviate them through increasing the Kingdom’s exports, according to Petra. 

For his part, President Erdogan highlighted the strong Ankara-Amman relations, underlying the need for constant coordination between the two countries on the various regional issues of mutual concern, Petra reported. 

 Razzaz thanked Turkey for its efforts and cooperation that led to the extradition of high-profile Jordanian fugitive in the so-called “tobacco case”, Awni Mutee.

Razzaz and Erdogan stressed the importance of helping the Palestinian people realise their legitimate rights, paramount of which is the establishment an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, accordion to Petra. The two sides also voiced their their rejection for any attempts to change the status quo in Jerusalem.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tareq Hammouri.

In a separate meeting, Razzaz discussed with Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay the ways to enhance bilateral ties, Petra reported.

Safadi and his Turkish counterpart Mouloud Gawishoglu held a separate meeting, during which they discussed a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Syrian crisis and terror-combating efforts. 

Safadi and Gawishoglu stressed the need for ongoing Jordanian-Turkish cooperation and coordination towards ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and helping the Palestinian people realise their right to a state of their own, Petra said.

The two top diplomats also underlined the need for a political solution to the Syrian crisis that can end the large-scale suffering of the Syrian people and safeguard their country’s territorial unity.

Talhouni and Hammouri also discussed bilateral cooperation with their Turkish counterparts.
