AMMAN  — Daily COVID-19 infections in schools range between 0.15 per cent and 0.018 per cent among teachers and students, Secretary General of the Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Education Najwa Qbeilat said on Saturday.

The cumulative percentage of infections in schools since the beginning of the scholastic year has not exceed 0.4 per cent, Qbeilat was quoted as saying by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The official said that the ministry has not yet taken a decision to resort to online teaching in any school.

According to the health protocol in effect, schools return to distance learning when the percentage of infections in the school reaches 10 per cent, Qbeilat noted, highlighting that the ministry, however, had taken a decision to return to remote teaching in a number of classrooms.

The official added that percentage of those who turned to distanced learning did not exceed 0.1 in the 82,048 classrooms in the Kingdom.

Underlining the ministry’s constant follow-up on the epidemiological situation at schools by appointing health officers in each school, Qbeilat noted that the ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, has conducted 40,926 random tests in all schools in the Kingdom since the beginning of the academic year.

Qbeilat affirmed that the health situation in all schools is “stable”, calling on parents to refrain from paying attention to rumours, pointing to the high percentage of vaccinated teachers, which reached 93.64.
