AMMAN — The ministries of Environment and Agriculture on Monday signed 17 cooperation agreements with environmental and charity associations and local authorities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The agreements came within the National Reforestation project, which aims to plant 10 million trees in five to 10 years in cooperation with public institutions and civil society organisations to increase green cover in the Kingdom.
In the presence of Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat, Environment Minister Nabil Masarweh said that the goal of the project is not only planting trees, but also “instilling the values of belonging, morals and teamwork among youth”.
Masarweh also praised the efforts of environmental associations in the agriculture and environment sectors.
Hneifat highlighted that the project helps fulfill Jordan’s commitment to international agreements related to combating desertification.
He noted that Jordan is one of the first countries to work on these agreements.
He indicated that the project creates job opportunities for young people.
