AMMAN — Queen Rania Centre for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) on Monday celebrated its achievements at the end of the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2019 at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT).

During a press conference, QRCE Executive Director Mohammad Obaidat said that for the first time in 11 years, the GEW witnessed the participation of more than 10,000 people in 264 activities across the Kingdom.

Organisations and small community programmes were established in small villages, Obaidat said, adding that more than 55 activities were held outside Amman, encouraging everyone to take part in entrepreneurship activities.

Thirteen public and private schools engaged in the GEW activities in order to "pass on the entrepreneurship concept to the next generation", according to the director.

He also voiced his gratitude for the centre's main strategic partners in GEW 2019: The Tank by Umniah and the start-up Salalem.

For her part, Umniah Jordan Corporate Communications Manager Nicole Shahin said that the rise in unemployment is considered one of the largest economic challenges facing the country and is hindering the contribution of the Kingdom's youth to economic development.

She added that economic growth is important for Jordan’s 2025 vision, which includes diversifying economic resources, enhancing innovation and encouraging entrerpreneurship.

President of PSUT Mashhour Rifai said that the QRCE, since its establishment in 2004, has sought to enhance entrepreneurship in Jordanian society, especially among young people.

The centre, which is associated with PSUT, aims at enhancing economic growth and supporting entrepreneurs and the entrepreneur sector, Rifai added.
