Ensour checks on services, projects in Madaba

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and a ministerial team on Thursday visited Madaba to become acquainted with the services available to residents and development programmes in the governorate.

During the visit, where he met with governorate deputies, senators and officials, Ensour said the draft decentralisation law is one of the most important laws that can make a positive change in citizens’ lives, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Ensour was also briefed on the traffic plan which was recently launched in Madaba, some 30km southwest of Amman, at a cost of JD300,000, and included rehabilitating road infrastructure, installing traffic lights and providing free parking areas.

Regarding the establishment of an industrial estate in the city, the premier said the government decided to have at least one industrial estate in each governorate, referring to a recent Cabinet decision to establish estates in Madaba, Jerash, Tafileh and Balqa.

He also visited Central Madaba Education Directorate and checked on preparations to start the academic year. 

Ensour was briefed on education conditions in Central Madaba District, where there are 37,000 students at 72 public schools, 24 private schools and one UNRWA school, Petra reported.

He also visited Al Nadim Public Hospital and checked on work there and the services avilable to patients. The premier was also briefed on the JD4-million expansion project at the hospital.

Ensour visited Madaba Visitor Centre and checked on its expansion project, according to Petra.

Government spending on the Madaba Governorate development programme between 2016 and 2018 is expected to reach JD127.369 million, Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury said during a visit to the governorate on Wednesday.

At a meeting with lawmakers, officials and local community representatives in the governorate, Fakhoury said the estimated cost of development projects for 2016 is JD38.63 million, while it stands at JD44.291 million for 2017, and JD44.291 million for 2018.
