AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Al Ali on Saturday briefed food importers and traders on the government’s recent procedures to limit the rise in the prices of basic commodities in the local market.
During a meeting organised by the Foodstuff Traders Association (FTA), Ali stressed the need for maintaining the strategic food stock to enhance food security, a top priority for the government, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
FTA President Khalil Haj Tawfiq highlighted the necessity of exempting all food imports from customs duties, taxes and fees that range from 4 to 30 per cent. The minister said that all proposals made by the private sector will be considered to serve public interest and enhance price stability.
