AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) has licensed over 2,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging meters, in addition to 41 public and 13 private charging stations, EMRC Chairman Ziad Saaideh said. Saaideh spoke on the commission’s progress during the opening ceremony of an EV charging station workshop hosted by USAID and attended by ministries and national institutions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
There are several charging station licensing applications pending approval, he said, adding that the EMRC issued regulations for charging station activities and has set tariffs and commissions for operating the stations. Saaideh pointed out that the commission has started requiring all new gas stations to offer EV charging services as a prerequisite for obtaining a licence. Saaideh expressed his appreciation of USAID’s support in launching the Jordan Energy Sector Capacity Building Activity (ESCB), implemented by Deloitte, which focuses on regulatory aspects of the sector.
