AMMAN — The Independent Elections Commission (IEC) decided to extend the deadline to close polling stations for one hour until 8pm in a number of areas.
The original deadline was 7pm; the IEC still has the jurisdiction to extend it by another hour.
IEC Spokesperson Jihad Momani told reporters that voter turnout was increasing with time around the Kingdom.
Voting deadline will be extended in all electoral districts in Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, Balqa, Madaba, Jerash and Ajloun.
Momani said Amman's 3rd district registered the lowest voting turnout, while Southern Badia recorded the highest turnout.
By 6:30pm, a total of 1,313,636 voters had cast their ballots, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing IEC figures.
Of these total voters, 673,371 are men, and 640,265 are women, Petra reported.
The number of eligible voters stands at 4,130,145, according to the IEC.
