Eid Al Adha celebrations held in Azraq refugee camp

AMMAN — The UAE Red Crescent Society on Saturday held a celebration marking Eid Al Adha in the Syrian refugee camp at Muraijib Al Fahood in Azraq, jointly managed by Jordan and the UAE.

The event was conducted in collaboration with the Al Liwan Foundation for Culture and Arts, and the management of the camp.

Under the theme "Joyful Events", the event featured the opening of a new multipurpose hall named "Mother of the Emirates Hall", in recognition of the efforts of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (SCMC) and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) in the UAE.

During the event, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, emphasised the significance of such events to commemorate the sacred occasion of Eid Al Adha with Syrian refugees, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He also noted the importance of the establishment of the newly inaugurated hall, which will provide a venue for diverse activities within the camp. 

He also expressed appreciation for Jordan's role in hosting refugees and providing them with essential services and assistance, ensuring their safety, dignity and peace.

He further acknowledged the vital collaboration between volunteer organisations in the UAE, represented by the UAE Red Crescent, and the security bodies and official institutions in Jordan.

Nasser Al Kaabi, deputy head of the UAE Relief Team, emphasised the two countries’ shared commitment to serving Syrian refugees and alleviating their hardships 

The day of celebration included the distribution of Eid gifts to orphaned children, widowed women and children with disabilities residing in the camp. 

In collaboration with the UAE Red Crescent, the Al Liwan Foundation organised an open day for children and families.

In addition, the camp management carried out the annual sacrificial project, which involved the purchase and ritually proper slaughter of sacrificial animals in accordance with Islamic law. 

The UAE relief team distributed portions of meat to the refugees in the camp, while additional portions were provided to underprivileged families registered with approved charitable associations under the Ministry of Social Development in Jordan. Portions of meat were also distributed to families living in tents.
