AMMAN — The fourth Ecclesiastical Lawyers Conference concluded at the Dead Sea on Friday, with speakers stressing the need for attorneys to promote Christian ethics by lawful, proper and appropriate means.
Fouad Twal, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, said workers in the legal profession have to take greater responsibility for the benefit of the Christian family and society in general.
More than 50 ecclesiastical lawyers and judges from Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon attended the conference.
“Mercy is a precondition for the attainment of justice,” said Twal, noting that civil, ecclesiastical and judicial authorities should use their capabilities to preserve familial stability.
“It is important for both priests and lawyers to be aware of the ecclesiastical laws on matters such as inheritance and divorce for the benefit of Christian families and the community in general,” Catholic Bishop of Jordan Maroun Lahham told the Jordan Times, commenting on the conference.
