EBRD finances Amman municipality methane extraction project

AMMAN — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Thursday announced a financial package worth 4.7 million euros for the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The package will fund the expansion of a current project to extract methane from the Ghabawi landfill.
The agreement was signed at the EBRD in London in the presence of Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh and Vice President of Banking at EBRD Alain Pilloux.The bank said the funding would help GAM cover costs of the project which will be used to produce clean energy.
The total loans and grants that the EBRD provided to the GAM amounted to 110.4 million euros. It is worth mentioning that the EBRD has invested about 1 billion euros in 40 projects since 2012 in various sectors of the Kingdom’s economy.
