AMMAN — A delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, headed by Melle Leenstra, the agricultural counsellor to Egypt and Jordan, visited the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC).
The two sides discussed prospects for cooperation and means to enhance joint work opportunities between the Netherlands and Jordan in the agricultural sector through NARC and the executive arms of the Ministry of Agriculture, according to a NARC statement.
Nizar Haddad, the director general of NARC, briefed the guests about NARC’s achievements and research in several areas, most notably hydroponics, non-traditional water, agricultural maps, sustainable agriculture, training and capacity building.
Leenstra expressed his admiration for the bilateral relationship that binds the two countries, especially through cooperation with the Wageningen University of the Netherlands.
The Government of the Netherlands fully supports these efforts to resort to smart solutions that serve the future of agriculture and consider agricultural diversity and the interdependence of different sectors, the statement said.
The visit included a tour in which the delegation was briefed on the facilities and laboratories of NARC, in addition to a number of pioneering projects in the Agricultural Innovation Incubator, and success stories within Farmer Field Schools.
