Drug smuggling attempt foiled at Syrian border

AMMAN — The Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with the Military Security Directorate and Anti-Narcotics Department, on Thursday at dawn foiled several synchronised qualitative operations on several fronts, including infiltration attempts by a group of people and attempts to smuggle large amounts of drugs and weapons from Syria into the Kingdom.  

A source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said that participating personnel applied the rules of engagement, leading to the injury of some smugglers and the retreat of others to Syrian territories, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Searching the area, the personnel found 770,000 Captagon pills, 969 palm-sized sheets of hashish, four Kalashnikov rifles, four ammo magazines, and 140 bullets of a 9-millimetre pistol, the source said, noting that all seized items were referred to competent authorities. 

The JAF source stressed that the army will deal with any illegal attempts to cross the border in any direction, and schemes to harm Jordan and Jordanians, by applying the necessary measures. 

He also urged the public to receive a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine  and abide by wearing face masks.
