Drivers, not passengers, to be fined for seatbelt violations — CTD

By JT - May 23,2023 - Last updated at May 23,2023

AMMAN — Deputy Director of the Central Traffic Department (CTD) Col. Anwar Kharabsheh on Monday refuted reports that the front seat passengers will be fined if they fail to wear seatbelts. Kharabsheh said that the fine will be imposed on the driver, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Kharabsheh stressed the importance of wearing seatbelts, adding that doing so considerably lowers the danger of accidents or sudden stops that result in car and property damage.

To ensure road safety, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Monday started imposing stricter measures to control and enforce seat belt regulations for both drivers and passengers, he said. The CTD official added that the PSD seeks to ensure all road users' security and safety by preserving lives through its extensive traffic and public awareness strategies.
