AMMAN — Deputising for HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, Senate Yassin Mohammad Husban on Thursday inaugurated the two-day conference of "Jordan Medical Leadership in Peace and War".

The conference, organised by the Jordan Medical Association in collaboration with the Jordanian Royal Medical Services, Jordan Tourism Board, government and private hospitals, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, and scientific associations affiliated with professional unions, sheds light on the achievements and challenges of the Jordanian medical sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the conference, Husban condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the crimes against Palestinians.

He expressed pride and appreciation for the doctors and healthcare professionals in Gaza who are working under challenging and unbearable conditions.

He affirmed Jordan's unwavering support for Palestine through various initiatives, including the Jordanian field hospitals in Gaza and the West Bank, and stressed the commitment to stand with them until they achieve their legitimate rights and establish their independent state.

Husban pointed out that Jordan, at one time, ranked first in the Arab world and fifth in the world in medical tourism, calling for nationwide efforts to revitalise the sector, since "the Kingdome has the best doctors and health personnel and the most important medical and therapeutic institutions."

President of Jordan Medical Association (JMA) Ziad Zu'bi pointed out that the conference highlights the role of the Jordanian doctor in times of war and peace, vowing to uphold their legacy as pioneers in healthcare.

Zu'bi also drew attention to the ongoing "genocidal acts" in Gaza, decrying the indiscriminate targeting of civilians and infrastructure.

He also underscored the impact of the relentless aggression on essential facilities like hospitals, schools, mosques, and churches, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. Zu'bi noted the alarming toll on Gaza's population, with 4 to 5 per cent killed, injured, or disabled during the past four months of aggression.

The conference covers various key topics, including medical tourism, the future of medical education in Jordan, pharmaceutical security, injuries in wars and disasters, psychological and physical effects of war injuries, pediatric injuries and diseases, ophthalmology advancements dermatological diseases, natural medicine, and rehabilitation, and obesity surgery.
