AMMAN — Jordan’s exports of vegetables and fruits in September stood at 66,500 tonnes with a 15 per cent decrease compared to September 2014.
The drop is blamed on recurrent heatwaves this summer, Salah Tarawneh, the Ministry of Agriculture’s assistant secretary general said Tuesday, quoted by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Tarawneh said vegetable exports constitute 82.5 per cent of the total agricultural exports, adding that 97.8 per cent of the shipments headed for Gulf countries, whereas the rest went to Europe, Israel and other countries.
