AMMAN — Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood on Tuesday condemned Israeli Housing Minister Uri Ariel’s storming of Al Aqsa Mosque compound along with six Jewish extremists on Tuesday.
The minister described the act as unethical and unacceptable, especially coming from an Israeli government official.
Dawood said Jordan is the custodian of holy sites in Jerusalem, stressing that such irresponsible actions provoke worshippers at Al Aqsa Mosque and Muslims around the world.
He urged Arab and Muslim states to support the Kingdom’s efforts to safeguard Jerusalem’s holy sites and heritage.
The Awqaf Ministry, he said, spends over JD7 million from its budget every year on administering Jerusalem’s holy sites.
