Customs Department ‘integral part’ of national security — PM

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Omar Razzaz on Thursday highlighted the role of the Jordan Customs Department (JCD) in safeguarding the Kingdom, increasing the competitiveness of the national economy and protecting public money.
During his visit to the JCD, Razzaz said that the department “is an integral part of the system designated to achieve national security”.
The PM lauded the Anti-Narcotics Department’s efforts in thwarting drug smuggling, highlighting the drop in the number of tobacco smuggling cases.
He stressed the importance of easing measures for citizens, importers and traders at the same time tightening measures to combat smuggling and commercial fraud.
The PM said that the Cabinet will endorse legislation that enhances the department’s efficiency, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During his tour, the premier checked on the electronic transit monitoring department and was briefed on the customs field inspection operation, according to Petra.
