Cultural heritage ‘pillar’ of tourism — Princess Dana

By JT - Aug 04,2022 - Last updated at Aug 04,2022

AMMAN — HH Princess Dana Firas, president of the Petra National Trust (PNT), on Wednesday said that cultural heritage is “highly sensitive” as it is “the main pillar for tourism” in Jordan.

During a meeting with the Senate Tourism and Heritage Committee president and its members, Princess Dana said that investing in cultural heritage is the base of any development process, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The princess stressed that the PNT is concerned with responding to challenges emerging from mismanagement of heritage sites, such as a lack of awareness of the importance of heritage, tourism, irresponsible construction and development. Senator Nidal Qatamine, head of the committee, praised the work of the PNT in preserving and protecting heritage despite several challenges, mainly in Petra. The rose-red city is considered an “icon” of tourism, which should be utilised for the development of the national economy.
