AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Thursday paid a visit to the Public Security Department’s (PSD) headquarters, where he met with its director, Maj. Gen. Ahmad Sarhan Faqih, and checked on plans and programmes related to developing police and security work.
His Royal Highness listened to a briefing from Faqih on PSD programmes that aim at improving the level of security services presented to citizens and residents, as well as efforts exerted in curbing crimes, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty King Abdullah has recently voiced support for restructuring under way in the police and armed forces.
The Crown Prince expressed his pride in the PSD's efforts in crime prevention and preserving citizens' security and safety while ensuring respect for human rights and individuals’ dignity, adherence to the rule of law and the highest degree of impartiality and transparency in its work.
Prince Hussein highlighted the importance of a PSD initiative to engage young people as active members of local councils set up by PSD directorates to assist police in fighting crime and serving the public. He called for enhancing communication with youth as “valuable” community members.
Visiting the PSD’s command and control centre, the Prince had a firsthand look at security and traffic surveillance systems and others used to receive and process complaints, in addition to a special system designed to receive complaints from the deaf-mute via the number 114, which is the first of its kind in the region.
While in the centre, the Crown Prince observed several police drills, implemented separately by the Anti-Narcotics Department, Rangers and the Preventive Security Department, with the use of modern technologies that provided a direct transmission to the centre through drone cameras.
Crown Prince Hussein praised the advanced level of proficiency shown by PSD personnel while conducting their duties with the use of modern technologies that have been provided to the PSD.
