Crown Prince turns 20

AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein celebrated his 20th birthday on Saturday.

His Majesty King Abdullah wished the Crown Prince a happy birthday on the Royal Court’s Facebook page.

“As your grandfather Hussein, God rest his soul, chose me to serve my country, I dedicate you Hussein, as you turn 20 and mature further, to helping your brothers and sisters in serving your country and nation. I am proud of you. Happy birthday,” the King wrote.

On her Facebook page, Her Majesty Queen Rania wrote: “Happy birthday to my eldest [son], my pride, my joy.”

Born on June 28, 1994, the Crown Prince is the eldest son of King Abdullah and Queen Rania. He has one brother, HRH Prince Hashem, and two sisters: Their Royal Highnesses Princess Iman and Princess Salma.

A Royal Decree was issued on July 2, 2009 naming him as Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince, who holds the rank of second lieutenant in the Jordan Armed Forces, is currently pursuing his higher education at Georgetown University in the US, majoring in international history, after completing his secondary education at King’s Academy in 2012, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Crown Prince Hussein has acted as Regent several times during the King’s absence. He has also accompanied His Majesty on several visits and tours of various governorates, along with official and military missions and functions at home and abroad. The Crown Prince has launched several initiatives that stimulate young people and instil the spirit of volunteerism in them.  

He launched the “Haqeq” (achieve) initiative, which involves hundreds of school students from all governorates in activities that instil a sense of volunteerism, democracy, teamwork and patriotism.

He also launched the “Qusai Initiative” seeking to improve the performance of sports therapy staff, a month after a Faisali team player died during a football match.

The initiative aims at improving the capabilities of sport therapists on and off the field, and creating programmes that can be implemented to ensure the safety of players.

The Crown Prince has also adopted a Royal Court initiative to treat Jordanians with hearing difficulties and in need of cochlear implants, issuing directives that the proceeds of the 9th Allgau Orient Rally, which concluded in Jordan in May, go to the benefit of these children.
