CPF initiative mobilises aid for daily wage workers during curfew

AMMAN — In response to the damages incurred by daily wage workers resulting from the nation-wide lockdown imposed by the government as a precautionary measure against the spread of the novel coronavirus, Naua, an initiative of the Crown Prince Foundation, launched the “their daily payment is on us” campaign.

The national campaign, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development, aims at supporting daily wage workers and their 200,000 families through mobilising aid from individuals and private sector institutions. The donations will be channelled through official and civil society institutions to daily wage workers’ families across the Kingdom.

The “their daily payment is on us” campaign distributes food parcels to beneficiaries directly, in coordination with the Social Protection Team, which includes the Ministry of Social Development, Jordan Red Crescent, the National Aid Fund, the Social Security Corporation (SSC), Tkiyet Um Ali, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), the Ministry of Youth and a representative from the voluntary sector.

The offered assistance covers the basic needs of the beneficiaries for a period of  one month, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Naua's CEO Ahmad Zubi said that the move is in line with the recommendations of the International Labour Organisation, which called for taking fair and comprehensive measures in response to the economic crisis caused by the virus.

The Ministry of Social Development has urged daily wage workers, who have been affected and are currently unable to earn a living as a result of the nation-wide curfew, to register their names in the ministry’s unified national registry.

Since the launch of the campaign, from the beginning of the crisis through Saturday, Naua has facilitated all donations in the form of more than 15,000 food parcels, distributed through the JHCO and a number of civil society organisations, as the campaign seeks to distribute 7,000 food parcels on a daily basis over the coming period, Petra added.
