AMMAN — The Court of Cassation upheld an August Criminal Court ruling sentencing a man to five years in prison after convicting him of molesting a married woman in August 2016.

The court declared the defendant, who worked in carwash shop, guilty of entering the house of the 22-year-old victim on August 20 and molesting her.

He was handed the maximum punishment for the crime.

Court documents said the defendant worked in the carwash shop under the victim’s home.

On the day of the incident, the court maintained, the defendant snuck into the victim’s house shortly after her husband left to work.

“The defendant undressed himself and stood next to the victim while she slept in her room and the minute she woke up she started screaming,” according to court document.

The defendant placed his hands on the victim’s mouth and molested her then left, the documents stated.

The young woman immediately contacted her sister and husband and notified them of what has happened and they alerted the authorities, court transcripts added.

The higher court ruled that the Criminal Court followed the proper procedures when sentencing the defendant and he deserves the verdict he received.

The Court of Cassation judges were Mohammad Ibrahim, Naji Zu’bi, Majid Azab, Yassin Abdullat and Bassem Mubeidin.
