AMMAN — The Amman Magistrates Court on Sunday heard the testimony of several witnesses in the case the Jabal Luweibdeh building collapse.
One of the main witnesses, an engineering expert, testified that the “maintenance work for the building on the day of the collapse was the main cause of the building’s destruction,” the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The witness added that the minute that “a pole, situated in the floor where the maintenance was taking place, was replaced, the building collapsed,” Petra said.
The witness added that previous construction work caused the cracks in the building, which resulted in the deaths of 14 people and the injury of dozen more people, Petra added.
The witness was one of many experts who examined parts of the collapsed building, Petra added.
Earlier this month, three defendants, who were held in connection with the Jabal Luweibdeh building collapse, were released on bail.
The law stipulates that in such cases, defendants cannot be detained for more than one month based on misdemeanour charges.
The three defendants, including the heir of the building owner, who was responsible for supervising the property, the maintenance supervisor and a maintenance technician, face 14 counts of manslaughter and causing harm.
