Condemnations of Karak terror attack continue

AMMAN — Several public agencies, professional associations, political parties, civil society institutions and popular movements on Monday denounced the Karak terror attack.

The Senate deplored the attack, which killed 10 people, describing the security agents who were killed in the line of duty as “heroes” who passed away in defence of the country.

Four police officers, three gendarmes, two civilians and a Canadian national were killed, while 34 other civilians and police officers were injured when four gunmen stormed the southern city, 150km south of Amman, and fired at security and civilians before heading to Karak Castle.

Several Lower House committees denounced the “criminal attack by outlaws who tried to destabilise the security of the Kingdom”, calling on citizens to unite against all threats.

A number of professional associations — including the engineers, doctors, nurses and teachers syndicates — denounced the attack and expressed their condolences to the families of the victims.

The Jordan Press Association and the Jordan Press Foundation — which publishes Al Rai and The Jordan Times — organised separate sit-ins to show solidarity with families of the victims and security agencies.

Several political parties also condemned the attack. 

The Jordanian People’s Democratic Party (Hashd) denounced the terrorist act and called on official institutions to take immediate measures to protect the youth against the threats of terrorism and extremist ideologies.

Hundreds of students and faculty members at universities around Jordan organised sit-ins to express their denouncement of the terror attack.

Jordanian communities in the US, the UK, the UAE and Kuwait also denounced the criminal act and voiced their solidarity with and condolences to the families of the victims.
