AMMAN — A 24-hour lockdown involving the closure of permitted commercial stores and establishments and a ban on people’s movement across the Kingdom will begin at midnight, Brig. Gen. Mazen Faraiah, director of operations at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management's crisis cell, said on Thursday.

During a press briefing held at the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management, which was streamed live on Facebook, Faraiah confirmed that paper permits issued by the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management and the Prime Ministry are now invalid.

He added that 4,451 out of 5,021 individuals have been evacuated from Amman and Aqaba hotels designated as quarantine sites, noting that the remaining — Jordanians and non-Jordanians — either have not completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine or are infected with COVID-19.

On Friday, the relevant entities will carry out tests on 291 people staying in Amman's Regency Palace Hotel, he noted.

Faraiah also highlighted the deployment of the armed forces and security personnel across the Kingdom to ensure citizens and residents’ adherence to instructions, stressing that healthcare providers and a number of workers in the water, electricity and environment sectors are excluded from the comprehensive curfew.
