Chinese ambassador calls for joint global efforts against virus, warns against politicising pandemic

AMMAN — Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang on Saturday called for joining international efforts to confront the novel coronavirus. 

The ambassador warned against politicising the pandemic, especially since such an act would undermine the international community’s unity and cooperation in the war against the virus, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

He added that China was the “first country to report the epidemiological situation to the world and the first country to be able to control the pandemic”, noting that Beijing has dispatched specialised medical teams to 15 countries to help fight the virus. 

The diplomat also pointed out that China has donated $50 million to the World Health Organisation to help it control the disease and support the health systems of developing nations, Petra reported.
