AMMAN — A three-year-old child, who was reportedly stabbed her father last week in Ramtha, was still recovering at hospital on Saturday, a senior official source said.

The victim was stabbed on Wednesday along with her 24-year-old mother and two sisters aged 4 and 2, while at their home at noon in Ramtha, 90km north of Amman.

The 28-year-old father then went to the nearest police station and turned himself in, claiming to have killed his wife and daughters to “cleanse his family’s honour”, official sources told The Jordan Times last week.

“The victim is recovering, and her condition is improving,” the official source told The Jordan Times.

In his initial statement to police and to Criminal Court Prosecutor Qahtan Qawaqzeh, the suspect, who fixes bicycles, claimed that he “stabbed and killed his wife, then attacked his three daughters to cleanse his family’s honour”, the source added.

Qawaqzeh charged the suspect with three counts of premeditated murder and one count of attempted murder, ordering his detention at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation.
