AMMAN — President of the Jordan and Amman chambers of industry Fathi Jaghbir on Thursday said that allowing certain industrial sectors to operate their factories at 40-per cent worker capacity is a “vital decision” that serves local industry and provides a “great opportunity” for exports.

Earlier in the day, Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Tareq Hammouri announced that certain industrial sectors would be allowed to resume work with a maximum of 40 per cent of their employees working in two shifts, 20 per cent for each shift. The factories will resume operations after receiving necessary permits through a certain mechanism and pledging to adopt public safety and health procedures, he said.

Jaghbir said in a statement that the decision to resume work reduces the burdens that may arise on the industrial sector and on the government in terms of workers’ wages and the provision of goods, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He stressed that the industrial establishments that have already resumed work are applying the “highest health and safety measures” to prevent any infections with COVID-19 inside the facilities, noting the “relentless” follow-up by the Board of Directors of the Jordan Chamber of Industry to restart the industrial sector, including all its facilities, as soon as possible.
