CDD receives 145 ambulances from Swiss government

AMMAN — The Civil Defence Department (CDD) on Wednesday received 145 ambulances from the Swiss ministry of economic affairs, as part of a Swiss project to improve the CDD's ambulance services.

During a ceremony to mark the event, attended by CDD Director Maj. Gen. Mustafa Bazayah and Deputy Swiss Ambassador to Amman Andreas Huber, the CDD's director of planning said the project was a result of joint efforts and close relations between the Jordanian and Swiss governments. 

The grant will help improve emergency medical services by providing vehicles, equipment, financial and technical support, as well as training for CDD personnel working in the field, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Huber said that Jordan faces challenges related to the population growth, which calls for increasing public services, especially emergency health services. 

Daniel Munby, director of the Swiss project, expressed the Swiss government’s readiness to strengthen civil defence capabilities, and contribute to achieving its mission based on the safety of life and the preservation of property.

The Swiss project to develop the CDD’s ambulance services included the 145 ambulances, equipped with modern paramedic equipment, which will replace older vehicles in areas that need it the most.
