AMMAN — Police on Saturday ruled that the death of a 46-year-old British diving instructor on an Aqaba beach over the holiday weekend was accidental, officials said.
The victim had just finished a diving session at the southern beach of Aqaba and “when he reached the beach he collapsed”, a senior Civil Defence Department (CDD) official said.
“The victim was rushed to the Prince Hashem Military Hospital but was declared dead on arrival,” the CDD official told The Jordan Times.
“The speculations are that the man died of an explosion in the vascular vessels that resulted from a mistake he made but an autopsy should clarify the real cause,” the CDD official added.
Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times that foul play was ruled out and that “his death was the result of an accident”.
A British embassy spokesperson would not elaborate on the cause of death, adding that the “embassy is aware of the incident”.
“The embassy is in constant contact with the relevant authorities to provide the necessary support to the family involved,” the spokesperson told The Jordan Times.
