AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben on Tuesday promoted non-commissioned officers, who foiled an infiltration attempt on the Jordanian-Syrian border on Monday, for their “courage and dedication while on duty”.
Zaben also honoured their commanding officer for his “keenness and proficiency”, a statement by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said.
An earlier statement said that the border guards foiled an infiltration attempt by five persons who tried to cross into Jordan from Syria.
JAF Spokesperson Colonel Mamdouh Al Ameri said in the statement that one infiltrator was killed and another injured while the remaining three fled to the Syrian side. He added that a sixth person who was helping the infiltrators by sending them signals was also arrested.
Meanwhile, the border guards sent 17 Syrians who were injured during clashes in Syria to Jordanian hospitals, according to an army statement.
