AMMAN — The Arab Thought Forum (ATF) on Tuesday held a ceremony to launch a book titled “The state and market economy: readings in privatisation policies and its Arab and international experiments”, by Taher Kanaan and Hazem Rahahleh.
ATF Secretary General Mohammad Abu Hammour said there are ideological disagreements about the economic role of a state, with some believing that the state should give the private sector a larger role, with state institutions maintaining their monitoring roles, according to an ATF statement.
Abu Hammour added that others think that the state has to provide for the various needs of citizens.
Kanaan said that the relationship between the state and the market occupies a large proportion of modern economic debates, especially given that this relationship directly affects economic activities and outcomes.
