AMMAN — Labour Minister Nidal Bataineh on Saturday paid a surprise visit to two factories at Hussein Bin Abdullah II Industrial City in Karak Governorate. During the visit, the minister was briefed on the state of employment at the factories and their working conditions, according to a Labour Ministry statement.
Bataineh also met a large number of workers as well as factory managers and administrators, and conducted an inspection tour of workers' accommodations. The purpose of Bataineh's visit was to verify complaints submitted by a group of workers to the ministry concerning working condition violations in the factories.
Although a number of the violations "were not proven" during the visit, the factories were instructed to take corrective measures. The minister decided to place inspection teams in the factories for two weeks to ensure that the corrective measures are implemented, the statement said.
