AMMAN — Authorities on Sunday said that a Bangladeshi domestic helper who was found hanging from the staircase at her employers’ home on Saturday in an Amman neighbourhood, “most probably committed suicide”.

The victim, who was not identified, was found by her employers with a scarf wrapped around her neck hanging from the window of their home in Hashmi Shamali, a senior police official said.

“We do not know the reason that led the woman to take her own life because she did not leave a note,” the official source told The Jordan Times.

The source added that investigators are currently questioning her employers to learn more about the incident.

The victim’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine (NIFM) for an autopsy, the senior police source said.

A medical source at NIFM said an autopsy was expected late Sunday or on Monday.

“We have received the body from the police and will perform an autopsy on the victim soon,” the medical source told The Jordan Times.
First Secretary of Labour at the Bangladeshi embassy in Amman Mohammad Moniruzzaman said the victim entered the Kingdom in March 2017.

“We are following up with the Jordanian authorities to learn more about the circumstances of the incident,” Moniruzzaman told The Jordan Times.

The embassy official added that the next of kin of the victim has been notified about the incident.

“Once the investigation is complete and an autopsy report is issued, we will receive the body from the Jordanian authorities and send it to Bangladesh for burial,” Moniruzzaman added.
