AMMAN — Acting Foreign Minister Ali Al Ayed on Monday met with EU ambassadors in the Kingdom to acquaint them with the latest developments in Jerusalem.
During the meeting, Ayed said that what Israeli forces have done at Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif earlier in the day is condemned and unaccepted, according to a ministry statement.
The minister noted that Israel has continued its violations against Al Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalemites in a breach to international law, the historical and legal status quo and its commitments as an occupation force in East Jerusalem.
Ayed said that the Kingdom, based on the historical Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, devotes all its capabilities to protect these holy sites and their Arab identity and preserve the historical and legal status quo in the face of illegitimate Israeli attacks.
Jordan is moving forward with its actions and contacts with the international community to create an effective international effort that can protect Jerusalem, its residents and the holy sites from the illegitimate and inhumane Israeli practices, the minister said, warning against the dangerous repercussions of these acts on regional and international security and stability.
Ayed highlighted the importance of the EU stances in pressuring Israel to halt its violations and attacks against Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, mainly attacks on Jerusalemites at Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in occupied East Jerusalem.
He also briefed them with the Kingdom’s efforts in coordination with the Palestinians to support the steadfastness of the Jerusalemites in Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and their legitimate rights in their own homes, considering tampering with these rights a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
