‘Awqaf Ministry offering scholarships for Sharia students’

JERASH — Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood on Saturday said the ministry has granted scholarships to 170 students to study Sharia in order to deal with the shortage of mosque imams in the Kingdom.
At a meeting with Burma District residents in Jerash, Dawood said the ministry will grant 400 similar scholarships annually to address the issue.
He also called on Sharia (Islamic Law) graduates from the district to apply to the ministry for instant employment.
Dawood noted that the ministry will provide JD50,000 in aid to underprivileged students and productive projects.
Also on Saturday, the minister met with imams in Irbid and stressed the importance of Friday sermons, outlining the issues they should tackle.
