Awqaf Ministry calls on imams to perform ‘prayers for the absent’ for earthquake victims

AMMAN — The Awqaf Ministry on Thursday called on all imams to perform the "prayers for the absent" after the Friday prayer, in order to pray for the thousands of victims who lost their lives in the devastating earthquakes that affected Syria and Turkey. 

The call came via a circular that was issued by Awqaf Minister Mohammad Khalaileh, and was distributed to every Awqaf director in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The special communal funeral prayers were originally performed by Muslims for those who die in foreign lands and do not receive a proper burial.
