Association of Energy Engineers Club at PSUT wins two int’l awards

AMMAN — The Princess Sumaya University for Technology branch of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) has won two international awards in a competition organised by the association’s main branch in Washington. 

The club won the Best Conference Award, and the Best Social Media Campaign Award, against a field of more than 100 club branches around the world, according to a PSUT statement

President of the AEE Samer Zawaideh awarded the two shields to the student club’s administrative council: Georgina Al Dalu, Raja’i Al Sahouri, Muhammad Ibrahim and Kareem Al Mulki.

PSUT President Mashhoor Al Refai congratulated the club members and their supervisors on these two major wins and their outstanding achievements in various forums, emphasising the university’s keenness to implement the directives of HRH Princess Sumaya, chair of the university’s board of trustees, in seeking to participate in various international competitions. 

This participation reflects positively in the students’ gaining of academic and practical experiences, and the honing of their talents, he said.

The Dean of Student Affairs at PSUT Rami Salem praised the role of student clubs in supporting the university’s achievements and providing ways for its members to engage in activities that refine their talents and creativity. 

He pointed out that the clubs represent outstanding success stories, and play an important role in the formation and development of the students’ personalities and giving them positive values.

The club won the first prize by organising energy conferences over the course of two years under the title “Green Talk”, hosting specialists from the energy sector. Most notably, Mike Dieterich, a TED Talks speaker who is a scientist and a member of the Association of Energy Engineers in Washington, Samer Zawaideh who spoke about clean energy, Bashar Masoud, a CEA-certified member of the Association of Energy Engineers, who spoke about energy auditing and its importance, and Nidal Nassar from Philadelphia Solar who spoke about solar energy, according to the statement.

The club earned the second prize through organising social media campaigns with students on communication sites, the creation of a YouTube channel, a website and educational videos in various fields.

This competition is held annually, organised by the Association of Energy Engineers in the US, for all student branches in universities worldwide.
