ASSITEJ organises children’s theatre workshop

AMMAN — The National Centre for Culture and Arts / the King Hussein Foundation (ASSITEJ National Centre in Jordan) and MedeArts will hold the ASSITEJ Regional Workshop in Amman, funded by and organised with the support of the European Cooperation Project titled “Babel: the Art of Listening in Theatre for young audiences”. 

In addition, there will be ASSITEJ Executive Committee (EC) meetings held in Jordan from November 10 through 16, all coinciding with the 29th Jordan Theatre Festival, where EC committee members will attend theatre performances at the Royal Cultural Centre, according to a statement from The National Centre for Culture and Arts.

The four-day-long regional workshop “Form and Language in children’s theatre for young people aged between 4-10” held from November 8 – 11, will be led by specialists and practitioners in children’s theatre from Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt and Jordan.

The workshop will be attended by actors, dancers, directors, musicians and writers, as well as guests of the 29th Jordan Theatre Festival coming from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq and Jordan, said the statement.

The objective of the workshop is the creation of meaningful content by utilising creative forms and language to produce quality theatre productions for children that stimulate imagination, enhance knowledge and highlights the elements of surprise and fun. 

The EC Committee members, representing 13 countries, including Australia, Denmark, Chile, Korea, Nigeria, North Africa, Belgium, Italy, The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Pakistan, Mexico and Sweden, will meet with the Jordan Minister of Culture Haifa Al Najjar on November 14 to discuss effective ways to develop children’s and youth theater on national and international level, the statement said. 

President of ASSITEJ Sue Giles from Australia and Louis Valente Sorensen, Secretary General from Denmark, will attend the Executive Committee meeting in Jordan.
