AMMAN — Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Thursday left the Kingdom after a two-day official visit, the first by an Armenian president to Jordan.

During the visit, he met with His Majesty King Abdullah and a number of senior officials.

Discussions covered prospects for further cooperation, in addition to the latest regional developments and efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East.

The King and the Armenian president also witnessed the signing of several joint agreements and memoranda of understanding that seek to strengthen economic, agricultural, tourism and health cooperation.

Earlier on Thursday, Sargsyan visited the Baptism Site on the Jordan River, where Jesus Christ was baptised by John the Baptist, and toured its historical and religious monuments, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The president was received by Tourism Minister Nidal Katamine and Armenian Patriarch of Jerusalem Nourhan Manougian.

Sargsyan praised the coexistence and tolerance seen among followers of different religions in Jordan.

He attended a mass held at the Armenian Church there, which will be officially opened on Friday.

Sargsyan also visited the Jordan Museum, expressing his admiration of its collections, which tell the story of Jordan across time, Petra said.
