AMMAN — A campaign for the gradual shift from the use of plastic bags to cloth bags was launched in Aqaba as part of the second environmental festival organised by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Chief Commissioner Nayef Bakhit said on Thursday.
ASEZA Environment Commissioner Suleiman Najadat said that the initiative aims at reducing the use of plastic bags that cause pollution, noting that plastic bags do not decompose completely and harm the marine environment, humans and soil, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Najadat said that ASEZA will distribute 4,000 cloth bags to citizens in the coastal city’s bakeries, as bread is a basic food item in the Kingdom.
