AMMAN – Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Jawad Anani on Tuesday discussed regional challenges with a US congressional delegation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The delegation was headed by Republican Senator Joe Pitts, who is also head of the House of Representative’s Health Committee and a member of the House’s Committee on Energy and Commerce. During the meeting, attended by US Ambassador to Jordan Alice G. Wells, Anani said that the Kingdom was facing several challenges due to the regional political situation, especially the turmoil in Iraq and Syria.
The government has focused its programmes and plans on confronting these challenges, such as a disruption to the Egyptian gas pipeline, which increased the losses of the government-owned National Electricity Company, Anani said. The minister added that the government had diversified energy resources to overcome the energy crisis.
