Amman municipality preparing vision for 2025 — mayor

Nov 10,2014 - Last updated at Nov 10,2014

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has started drawing up a future vision of Amman to be gradually implemented by 2025, Amman Mayor Aqel Biltaji said on Monday. The new plan will contribute to shaping the future of the capital and preserving the city’s old features and landmarks, Biltaji added.

It will also provide a work plan for GAM to deal with various violations that have affected the distinct character of the city, the mayor noted during a meeting with representatives of the Khreibat Al Souk, Jawa and Al Yadoudeh areas.

Biltaji said the municipality will keep its doors open to the Jordanian community and embrace all proposals that support the public interest for the best of Amman and Ammanis.

The municipality, he added, is carrying out a comprehensive survey to prepare its future vision, looking into violations of the rules and regulations that govern the relationship between GAM and Amman residents, and studying the city’s infrastructure services.

The mayor said GAM is urging architecture firms to build more projects in the capital’s less populated areas to guarantee a balanced expansion of the city.

Several development projects will be carried out in south Amman, up to the Madoneh area, to open a large, organised site where used cars will be sold and kept, replacing the used car lots dispersed around Amman, Biltaji said.

The representatives briefed Biltaji on their areas’ needs, mainly increasing allocations for paving and renovating roads, and improving street lighting.
