Amman mayor, COP26 ambassador discuss natural resources-related challenges

AMMAN — Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh on Thursday met with COP26 Regional Ambassador for the Middle East and Africa Janet Rogan and reviewed Amman’s challenges related to shortages in natural resources, mainly water and energy. 

Shawarbeh also referred to the refugee crisis that has placed pressure on the infrastructure of the capital and high costs of municipal services, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Rogan praised Amman's efforts to address the impacts of climate change. 

British Ambassador to Jordan Bridget Brind stressed that GAM plays a vital role in adapting to the challenges of climate change in Jordan.

She added that the UK cooperates with GAM and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support the transport sector’s adaptation to shift to green transport means to limit emissions and pollution in Amman.
