Amman hosting regional conference on healthcare in detention

AMMAN — The second regional conference on healthcare in places of detention, organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) concludes in Amman on Thursday, an ICRC statement said.
Prison authorities and health professionals taking part alongside ICRC specialists in the three-day meeting are from 12 Middle Eastern and North African countries, where the ICRC visits detainees.
Discussions are covering the challenge of striking a balance between security considerations and healthcare needs, international standards of healthcare in places of detention, medical ethics and the role of medical doctors in places of detention, among other issues, the statement said.
